Prodigal son of Capiz wins city mayor
ROXAS CITY – The prodigal son of Liberal Party (LP) in Capiz won the city mayoral race and will unseat the present administration of Ugyon Kita Capiz (UKC) in a convincing margin through the first ever poll automation last Monday.
Former Vice Mayor Alan Celino won the mayorship by garnering 33,122 votes over opponent incumbent Mayor Vicente Bermejo with 32,431 votes with a margin of only 691 votes.
Celino’s running mate incumbent vice mayor Ronnie Dadivas retained his post by enjoying 39,940 votes compared to his close opponent City Councilor Dennis Altobano, UKC, who got only 21,865 votes.
Celino, a lone opposition, won as vice mayor over incumbent Vice Mayor Roberto Ignacio in 2004, and in 2007 he ran for congress versus two termer Rep. Antonio del Rosario but lost.
The LP’s prodigal son came back to the folds of LP as Sen. Mar Roxas fielded him to oppose Bermejo in the mayoral race.
Meanwhile, seven LP bets and three UKC bets won as city councilors in last Monday automated polls.
They are: Reelectionists City Councilor Erwin Sica, 35,536 votes, LP; Teresa Almalbis, 34,874 votes, UKC; Powel del Rosaio, 33,106 votes, LP; Matthew James Vitervo, 31,113 votes, LP; Reelectionist City Councilor Amador Anisco, Jr., 27,420 votes, IND; and City Councilor Jose Agadalipe, 24,935 votes, UKC; Emmanuel Billones, Jr., 24,155 votes, LP; Erlynne Lim, 24,148 votes, LP; Reelectionist City Councilor Carla Abela, 22,792 votes; and Julius Abela, 22,641 votes, LP.
The winners were proclaimed by City Comelec Officer Betita at around 4:40 a.m. yesterday at the city hall.
