Iloilo City library hub gets P100,000 worth of books
A total of P100,000 worth of books will be given to the library hub of the Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Iloilo City today, May 18.
The books are from the Aurelio V. Montinola Sr. Foundation, to be represented in the turn-over ceremony by members of the Montinola family including former Education Undersecretary Juan Miguel M. Luz.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and City Schools Superintendent Dr. Erlinda Gencaya will receive the donation at the Division Social and Cultural Hall, during the Seminar-Workshop on Current Trends in Library Management organized by the DepEd.
City Executive Assistant for Education Ma. Mathilde Octavio said the reconstructed library hub is now very well furnished with volumes of books donated by the DepEd and other concerned individuals and groups.
The city government, through the Local School Board, allotted P3.5 million for the renovation of the library hub located alongside the Division of Iloilo City Schools building.
“It is good we’re receiving these donations so that there will be more reference materials and books that can be used by our students in both public elementary and high school. The Montinola clan, in particular, wants their donation to benefit not just students but other people as well,” Octavio said. (PIO)
