‘Jealous’ husband hacks wife; hostages two kids
Jealousy allegedly sent a man in a fit of rage and attacked his wife Saturday evening inside their home at Brgy. Bita, Dueñas, Iloilo.
Reports said that Leo Arañador hacked his wife after they had an argument arising from the suspect’s jealousy on his wife, Lea.
Luckily, the wife was slightly hit on her right arm and jaw.
After the assault, Lea immediately destroyed the galvanized iron sheet, which served as wall of their house.
Carrying her four-month old baby, the wife jumped from their house and immediately sought help.
“Kung waay ko manaog patay gid ko,” Lea said.
Several minutes later, responding elements of Dueñas Police Station led by Chief Insp. Frederick Dequito responded to the crime scene.
But instead of yielding to police authorities, the suspect took hostage his two children, a girl and a boy, who were left when Lea jumped for safety.
The suspect initially did not negotiate with the cops. Instead, he asked for the presence of his loved ones.
Still, he refused to surrender.
His second demand was for the presence of a television crew.
Leo then talked to personnel of GMA’s Ratsada but still did not express willingness to surrender.
There were hesitations from police personnel to come near the premises thinking that the suspect was armed with a homemade shotgun.
It was later learned that Leo was armed with a bolo.
After several hours, Leo continued to dilly-dally talks for his surrender.
Later, policemen, through the TV crew, thought of giving a sleeping pill mixed on a cup of coffee on the suspect.
While Leo accepted the cup of coffee, he spilled the content.
“May pampatulog to ang kape para tani makapahuway siya para na lang para madala sa police station pero gin-ula niya man. Daw indi gani buang ah,” Dequito commented.
When it was already 5:00 a.m. of Sunday, Leo’s brother decided to tear down some portion of the house.
It was then that the suspect surrendered his two children to his brother but, still, he held on to his bolo.
After giving in his children, the suspect took his chance to escape.
When policemen later caught up with him, he still refused to surrender.
He did not also show any qualms while policemen were aiming their guns at him.
Leo only surrendered when policemen cornered him during the hot pursuit operation.
He was then brought and detained at the police station for proper disposition of his case.
