Vice gov-elect to push for ‘out-of-town’ sessions
ROXAS CITY – Vice governor-elect Board Member Esteban “Nonoy” Contreras of Liberal Party will push for the resumption of out-of town session at least once a month to be conducted at barangays in sixteen tows and this city.
“We want to bring government closer to the people,” Contreras said in an interview with the local media.
According to him, legislators should see for themselves the real problems in the barangays as their basis in formulating legislative measures for the benefit of their constituents.
Out-of-town sessions was implemented by the august body since the stint of vice governor and now second-termer Gov. Victor Tanco, Sr.
It was learned that the “pork barrel” of the provincial board members were spent for several projects in the barangays such as repair of school buildings, barangay halls, fences, uniforms and equipment of barangay tanods, health facilities, etc.
Contreras, son of then Governor Esteban “Dodoy” Contreras and brother of Pontevedra Mayor Dr. Steve Contreras, also thanked those who voted him in the recently concluded election.
Contreras won a landslide victory over his lone opponent former City Councilor Mark Ortiz of Ugyon Kita Capiz.
