30 convicted inmates transferred to Bilibid
POTOTAN, Iloilo – Thirty ‘convicted’ inmates of the Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) in Brgy. Nanga here were shipped to Manila over the weekend.
Of the number, 27 are males and three are females.
Atty. Soteo Gardose, warden of IRC, said that these insular inmates were sent to New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa and Correctional Institute for Women in Mandaluyong to serve their sentence.
They were escorted by 21 prison guards of the IRC.
Gardose added that majority of the inmates are facing cases of murder, homicide, and rape, among others.
As penalties, some inmates were sentenced of life imprisonment, reclusion perpetua and more than three years of imprisonment.
Gardose said that another batch of 30 insular inmates will be sent to Bilibid next month.
On the other hand, the IRC has awarded winning teams and individuals who won during their recent “2010 Summer Sports Fest” inside the IRC compound.
Champion of basketball game was the team from Area 4 while Area 2 is the over all champion in volleyball game and champion of chess tournament is from Area 6.
Various awards were also given to some individuals.
Aside from enjoyment, Gardose said the sports festival helps improve the health condition of the inmates, develop their self-discipline, enhance their sense of responsibility and belongingness and self confidence.
