DILG: ‘Tanod’ can help secure students
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 6 regional director Evelyn Trompeta said that Barangay Tanods can help the police in maintaining peace and order when pupils and students are expected to be back to school on June 15.
Trompeta said in a PIA interview that tapping the “local tanods” is a good scheme to boost the Oplan Balik Eskwela, considering that they are capable of spotting new faces of people not belonging to the area and who may be of suspicious character.
Trompeta said that there are more or less 54,000 barangay tanods in Western Visayas, “and they have considerably multiplier effects in terms of the maintenance of peace and order in their respective areas.
She added that in support to the directive of their Secretary, they likewise urge local chief executives to assist in Oplan Balik Eskwela to ensure the smooth opening of classes this month.
Secretary Ronaldo Puno in his directive said that barangay peacekeeping officers should work hand in hand with the local PNP and should be stationed in strategic areas to ascertain the safety and security of the students. (PIA6/T.Villavert)
