PRO-6 mulls placing another police outpost in Jaro area
Police Regional Office (PRO) VI revealed its plan of placing another Community Police Assistance Center (COMPAC) in Brgy. Balabago, Jaro district, particularly along the coastal road.
PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas said that the plan was an offshoot of the robbery and sexual molestation complaint of a promo girl against a taxi driver who allegedly brought her at the coastal area, particularly at the Iloilo Flood Control Project in Brgy. Cubay, Jaro.
For Cuevas, it was already the third incident wherein the suspect brought his would-be victim in the area to sexually molest.
Since the area is thinly populated, it also becomes a good prospect for robbers to bring their victimts.
Several months ago, a taxi driver was also found dead along the coastal area.
“I think if the patrols are maintained in the area, criminalities like rape and robbery would be curbed,” Cuevas believed.
Initial plan pointed that the police detachment would be placed near an intersection.
The area will be accessible for police to patrol going to Brgy. Baldoza in La Paz district.
“From the floodway, they could go to Quintin Salas then proceed to Jaro Grand Estates or Philippine Science High School then they could turn right going to the coastal highway,” Cuevas visualized.
The region’s top cop said that if the police visibility is maintained, the police outpost could be the best to the emerging criminality incidence in the area.
Cuevas said that it would also post as a good chokepoint in case hold-uppers and criminals, especially from Jaro and La Paz districts, would try to elude arrest by passing through the area.
Relatedly, Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi was tasked to discuss the plan with the owner of a building near the area.
Initially, members of Jaro Police Station will be placed to man the PNP detachment.
