Bacolod now 3rd in Top 10 Next Wave Cities for IT
Bacolod City climbed to the number three spot this year, from last year’s fifth spot, in the Top Ten Next Wave Cities for information technology and business process outsourcing.
The recognition is given by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, the Business Process Outsourcing Association of the Philippines and the Department of Trade and Industry to cities that were selected as the best IT/BPO locations in the country in terms of business environment, infrastructure, crime rate and efficiency, and presence of IT council among others.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that the most recent recognition given to the city is a validation that Bacolod continues to be one of the rising luminaries in the information technology business as shown by the flourishing BPO industry in the city.
Leonardia said that the fast burgeoning BPO industry in Bacolod is one of the results of the city having been awarded as the Most Business Friendly City in the country and the businessmen’s continued trust in the city government, peace and order situation, and infrastructure among many others.
The BPO industry that was non-existent when Leonardia held the mayorship in 2004 now provides employment to more than 6,000 Bacoleños. The mayor recognized that this industry has been a big boost to the local economy and vowed that the city government will continue to promote and implement programs to further enhance the employment prospects of more Bacoleños in the IT industry.
The cities that made it to this year’s top ten are as follows (according to rank): Davao, Sta. Rosa, Bacolod, Iloilo, Metro Cavite, Lipa, Cagayan de Oro, Malolos, Baguio, and Dumaguete.
