Independence Day signals renewed commitment
ROXAS CITY — The Department of the Interior and Local Government has called on newly elected officials to work together for the welfare of the people.
Western Visayas DILG Operation Services Division Chief Ma. Calpiza Sardua who represented Regional Director Evelyn Trompeta said that the Independence Day celebration should also signal the renewed commitment of re-elected officials for the people.
Sardua was the guest speaker of Cuartero, Capiz during the 112th Independence Day celebration as well as oath taking ceremony of the town’s newly elected officials.
“For the re-electionists, this is a challenge for you to do more for your constituents,” she said, adding that the legislative body of the local government must work harmoniously with the executive to deliver the needed services.
Sardua said that for the newly elected ones, this is also a challenge for them to do their jobs well as people are expecting from them.
According to her, the Independence Day is also the best start to set aside all issues relative to the May 10, 2010 elections as she encouraged public officials to move on and work together for the people of Cuartero.
Sardua stressed that while President-elect Noynoy Aquino has been rallying to fight corruption, she pointed out that the fight against corruption should start within each and everyone.
She also reminded public servants of said town to be guided by and live up to what have been enshrined in the Citizen’s Charter in the delivery of services to the people.
The Independence Day celebration and oath taking of newly elected officials are part of the 8-day activities of the town’s 138th religious fiesta and Agdahanay festival in honor of their patron saint San Antonio de Padua. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
