9 city bets have yet to submit statement of expenditures
Nine candidates from Iloilo City have yet to submit their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Comelec Iloilo City Election Officer G. Bert Arbis said the deadline for filing of SOCE is on June 24, 2010.
Under the election law, candidates are required to submit their SOCE after the election. Failure to do so would prevent them from running again in future elections.
Arbis said 48 of the 57 candidates in Iloilo City had already filed their SOCE.
The top five spenders based on the SOCE are Raul Gonzales Sr. and son Raul Jr., who ran for city mayor and congressman, respectively; newly-elected city councilor Rodel Fullon Agado; mayor-elect Jed Patrick Mabilog and congressman-elect and outgoing city mayor Jerry Treñas.
Arbis said, based on the SOCE they filed, the Gonzaleses spent P1.2 million, Fullon spent almost one million pesos, Mabilog P974,000, and Treñas P609,000.
Meanwhile in Iloilo province, 11 out of 39 candidates have not yet submitted their SOCE, said Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Elizabeth Doronila.
Doronila stressed, a penalty also awaits those candidates who failed to file their SOCE.
