3 business firms in Capiz under BIR ‘watch’
Roxas City – Three business establishments in Capiz are under surveillance by the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
Capiz Revenue District Officer Gil Tabanda disclosed to local media here during a press conference that at least three commercial establishments in Roxas City might be facing closure after all the evidences to warrant it are enough.
Tabanda said that the temporary closure of the said establishments is done after due process is afforded to the owner of said business.
According to him, due process is being given to the owner of the commercial establishment by giving him at first a 48-hour notice to rectify the understated tax.
“Should he fail to comply it, the BIR will also issue a 5-day Value Added Tax (VAT) compliance notice,” he said, adding that this is already the final notice to the owner.
Tabanda explained that should the owner refuses to comply the notice, the BIR will now be forced to temporary close said establishment under its “Oplan Kandado.”
He also disclosed that last year, a total of six establishments here with branches outside Capiz were pad locked by the BIR.
Tabanda also pointed out that they are closely monitoring the compliance of said establishments on the appropriate tax to be remitted to the government as it is the lifeblood of the nation.
On the other hand, he said that the BIR’s Oplan Kandado and other programs like Run After Tax Evaders (RATE), have contributed in the high revenue collection of Capiz in the first five months of this year. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
