Aklan PNP inaugurates new P10M police building
KALIBO, Aklan — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has inaugurated its new building inside the Camp Pastor Martelino in Barangay New Buswang.
Acting Police Regional Office (PRO-6) regional director Chief Superintendent Artemio Hicban led the PNP in the blessing and inauguration on Wednesday morning. Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez, Provincial Administrator Atty. Diego Luces, Vice Governor Gabrielle Calizo-Quimpo, Tangalan mayor Gene Fuentes, Madalag mayor Rex Gubatina and Senior Superintendent Wesley Barayuga also graced the inauguration.
Aklan police director Senior Superintendent Epifanio Bragais, Jr. said the building has a budget of P10-million from the PNP and an initial fund of P500,000 from the provincial government. Some offices will transfer in the new police building to service the 600-strong PNP personnel in the province and the general public, he added.
While undergoing construction, the Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) personnel occupied their old building which is located at the back of the new police building. Bragais’ predecessor, Senior Supt. Benigno Durana, Jr. and Senior Supt. Clarence Guinto, also helped in the initial construction of the modern building with the active support of Aklan Governor Carlito Marquez and Rep. Florencio Miraflores.
In December 2007, then PNP Deputy Director Jesus Versoza and Durana led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Model Police Station (MPS) project at Camp Pastor Martelino. Last February 23, 2009, the Micro-Asia Builders Construction started the construction during the stint of Guinto.
To serve as the lasting legacy of PNP to every Aklanons, the newly constructed building will now housed the administrative, investigation, police community relations and operations department.
APPO, under a 10-year Integrated Transformation Program, is a recipient of capacity-building trainings to improve the morale and welfare of its personnel, strengthen law enforcement and provide communities with capable, credible and effective police service. (Boy Ryan Zabal)
