PGMA fulfills poll automation pledge
ROXAS CITY – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has fulfilled her promise to modernize the electoral process for the May 10 national and local elections.
“She was able to fulfill that thrust,” said Roxas City Election Supervisor lawyer Jomar Betita.
He added that “everything turned out well” as the total result of election in the city was completed the following day.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) official has also thanked local candidates for the peaceful conduct of elections.
The first-ever automated elections in the country was part of the Arroyo administration’s legacy to the Filipino people as included in her Ten – Pont Agenda dubbed “BEAT THE ODDS.”
“We have just come through a historic election. It was open and it was modern,” the President said in her farewell message aired over government and private media networks last June 23.
In her short speech, President Arroyo again congratulated President-elect Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III and Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay as she reiterated the success of the first ever automated elections last May.
“We were able to declare winners in hours and days rather than weeks and months. The face of politics in our nation has changed forever,” she noted. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
