Capitol swears in officials today
Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. will lead the new set of Iloilo provincial officials in taking their oath of office in rites today at the New Iloilo Provincial Capitol Building in Iloilo City.
The incoming governor’s son, Arthur Jr., elected representative of the Third District, will administer the oath of office to his father.
Vice Governor Oscar “Richard” Garin, Jr.. and members of the 10th Sangguniang Panlalawigan will take oath before the governor.
According to the Capitol information office, the inaugural ceremony will start with a thanksgiving mass with Most Reverend Bishop Gerardo Alminaza officiating.
It will be followed by the oath-taking of the governor and the vice governor after which an inaugural address will be given by Garin and then by Defensor.
The ceremony is simple and short just like how the governor likes it without fuss but full of meaning and sentimentality, the Capitol said.
Defensor was first elected governor in 1992 after then Gov. Simplicio Griño, and finished three terms up to 2001. He will again serve a three-year term that will begin July 1, 2010 and end on June 30, 2013.
Defensor is the 27th governor of Iloilo since 1901 with Martin Delgado as the first governor.
The provincial board members who will be inducted are: First District, Gerardo Flores and Macario Napulan; Second District, June Mondejar and Demy Sonza; Third District, Emmanuel Gallar and Licurgo Tirador; Fourth District, Hernan Biron, Jr. and Shalene Palmares-Hidalgo; and Fifth District, Nielo Tupas and Jett Rojas.
