Mabilog to focus on 3 priorities
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has emphasized a three-point priority as he starts office today.
First, Mabilog said he will look into the stability of power supply of the city that is always suffering from brownouts.
He also called on the management and the board of the Metro Iloilo Water District to put their acts together with honesty and transparency.
“We spent million of pesos for the rehabilitation of our water system, but until now Iloilo City doesn’t have clean nor potable water,” he said.
Mabilog admitted that most of the people have to rely in buying expensive bottled or purified water for drinking.
“You (MIWD management and board) should put first the interest of the Ilonggos ahead of your interest. Each one of you has the responsibility to work together with honesty and transparency,” he said.
Second, Mabilog said he has asked the City Engineer’s Office to come up with a comprehensive drainage plan to address the problem of flooding in the city.
“I don’t want Ilonggos to experience the same scenario during Typhoon Frank two years ago. Unahon, tapuson kag kaayuhon naton ini nga mga problema (We will prioritize, address and finish this) during my administration,” he said.
Thirdly, Mabilog said he wants to cultivate strong business opportunities in the city that is “open for business.”
He said he wants to be known as the mayor of small business persons with a hotline service for the city, and someone that has the energy, strength and political will to implement projects and programs that are good for the city.
Mabilog also emphasized the creation of new jobs and economic opportunities for all citizens in a city that is free from corruption.
“This is to make Iloilo City a shining and noble or “La Muy Leal y Noble Ciudad de Iloilo,” targeting to make the city a premier city by 2015,” Mabilog said.
Moreover, Mabilog said he is also looking forward to work closely with members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
He said he hopes that the SP will response with equal enthusiasm and leadership in addressing both legislative and executive concerns.
“The government should work for us, not against us” in implementing programs good for the city and to make this city a better place to live,” Mabilog added.
