REEN 6 to hold scientific confab
ROXAS CITY – The Regional Environmental Education Network in Region 6 (REEN 6) will hold the 4th Scientific Conference on July 8 and 9, at the Marian Hall, St. Paul’s University in Iloilo City with the theme: “Environmental Education Towards a Sustainable Future.”
The scientific conference is hosted by St. Paul’s University as one of the 21-active member-institutions of the network in Region 6.
The network is managed by the Board of Trustees headed by its President, Dr. Melchor Magramo of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo; Vice President, Dr. Lucita de Guzman of SOTECH-UP Visayas; Secretary, Mrs. Soledad Sucaldito of PENRO, Province of Iloilo; Treasurer, Prof. Gloria Resano of WVCST-Main; Executive Director, Prof. Franklin Genciana of WVSU-Main; Auditor, Prof. Adam Jesus Bering of Filamer Christian College; Information Officers, Dr. Myrna Pelayo of ASU & Prof. Jesus Achiles Chua of St. Paul’s University.
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Sr. Caroline Agravante, SPC, president of St. Paul’s University, will welcome the participants. Dr. Julian Amador, regional executive director of DENR 6, and Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. will deliver the keynote addresses.
Input/lectures on various environmental topics will be discussed by experts coming from government and non-government organizations. Scientific papers to be presented will focus on environmental education dealing with on basic and applied aspects.
Some of the important lectures will focus on climate change such as Implications for Public Health and Strategies for Risk Reduction in Western Visayas; Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction with Environmental Management: Challenges and Opportunities in Western Visayas; Community-based Approach in Risk Management Strategies in Western Visayas; Sustainable Waste Management, Higher Education for Sustainable Development, Education/Sustainable Development in Cities; and Education Towards Sustainability Concerns of Natural Resources in Fragile Ecosystems.
Posters on best practices on environmental programs, projects, and activities of member-institutions, local government units, and non-government organizations will also be exhibited at the lobby area of the conference venue.
