65-year-old woman found dead
It took 10 days for the family of 65-year-old Carmelina Delanda to find her.
But it was a bittersweet reunion for them as the elderly woman was already dead and naked when found at the foot the mountain at Sitio Malbog, Brgy. Agcagarao in Ajuy, Iloilo.
According to her family, they have been looking for their kin all over the forest in the last 10 days but they failed to find her.
Their search ended after village resident Joren Paja, 25, confessed to his drinking buddies that he killed the victim, police said.
The suspect also revealed that he and Jesmar Magbanua, 21, of Brgy. Panduyanan, Ajuy buried Delanda’s body.
Their drinking pal told authorities about Paja’s revelation.
Senior Insp. Ariel Artillero, Ajuy police chief, said they have yet to know how Paja killed the woman.
“We can’t yet ascertain his motive,” he said, adding that they have received reports that the suspect is a drug dependent.
But some residents said that Paja, who claimed to have carried out the murder alone, is suffering from nervous breakdown.
“During the incident though, we presumed that he was at a lucid interval because he knew the circumstances of the murder,” Artillero added.
It was not yet known if the victim was raped, he said.
An autopsy was conducted on Delanda’s body Sunday afternoon.
