‘Smoke-free City Hall to protect public health’
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has declared the city offices a “smoke-free zone” to protect public health which is a policy of the government.
Executive Order No. 2, prohibiting smoking within the premises of all departments and offices of the Iloilo City Government, was issued by Mabilog on Wednesday.
“It is the policy of the city government to protect the health of its employees, clientele and the general public from the hazards of smoking and second-hand smoke and to instill health consciousness within the entire organization,” Mabilog said.
The mayor said he has instructed all department heads to post signages in conspicuous places within their respective offices for this purpose.
The no-smoking declaration is based on Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 and the Iloilo City Regulation Ordinance 2006-150 or the Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance, that prohibit smoking in public places and buildings.
CLEAN-UP
Earlier, Mabilog also personally supervised the cleaning of his office and issued an order for all city offices to conduct a clean-up of their respective areas on July 10.
“A clean and good office will reflect the image of city hall employees,” the mayor said.
Mabilog said funds will be allocated for monthly pest control operations.
The third floor area of Robinsons Place houses the different city departments and offices, pending the completion of the new city hall next year.
