Acervo no longer interested in barangay affairs committee
ROXAS CITY – Liga Ng Mga Barangay president Wilson Acervo said he is no longer interested to head the barangay affairs committee despite the Department of Interior and Local Government Provincial Office advice stating that as Liga president, he will automatically chair the said committee as provided in Republic Act 7160.
“Let them have it; I will not fight for it despite being the sectoral representative for barangays in the council,” Acervo said.
He said he has already conceded because he belongs to the minority in the city council.
“I’m was stripped of my chairmanship but I’m still the Liga president,” he added.
Acervo said that if he is offered to become committee vice chairman or member, he will decline but he will still support the initiatives of the committee.
Last month, Libas Brgy. Capt. Solomon Alisases was reportedly coordinating with other village chiefs amid reports that he is being supported by Mayor Angel Alan Celino to replace Acervo as Liga president.
Acervo supported former Mayor Vicente Bermejo who lost to Celino in his reelection bid.
During the inaugural session last week, the barangay affairs chairmanship was given to Councilor Matthew James Viterbo, a former barangay captain.
To recall, the Liberal Party council members displaced the outnumbered five councilors of Ugyon Kita Capiz from their committee chairmanships.
The 21 standing committee chairmanships were divided by the seven LP councilors among themselves.
Aside from Acervo, the UKC councilors left out in the chairmanships are Teresa Almalbis, Carla Abela, Jose Agdalipe, and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Katrina Barrios.
