City Liga, SK heads regain committee chairmanships
ROXAS CITY – The presidents of Liga ng mga Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation here regained their committee chairmanships during Tuesday’s regular session, after they were stripped of their posts when Liberal Party councilors took over their committees during the inaugural session last week.
Liga President Wilson Acervo got back his chairmanship in barangay affairs from Councilor Matthew James Viterbo while SK Federation President Katrina Barrios returned as chairman of committee on youth and sports development, a post earlier assumed by Councilor Erwin Sicad.
This came after Councilor Julius Abela, chairman of committee on internal rules and procedures, moved to return back the committee chairmanships to the two ex-officio members pursuant to the provision of the Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991.
Earlier, the DILG Provincial Office ruled that the barangay affairs committee should be automatically chaired by the Liga president as provided in R.A. Act 7160.
Acervo had earlier said he is no longer interested to fight for the chairmanship because he belongs to the minority in the city council.
“Let them have it; I will not fight for it despite being the sectoral representative for barangays in the council. I was stripped of my chairmanship but I’m still the Liga president,” he said then.
Last month, Libas Brgy. Capt. Solomon Alisases was reportedly coordinating with other village chiefs amid reports that he is being supported by Mayor Angel Alan Celino to replace Acervo as Liga president.
Acervo supported former Mayor Vicente Bermejo who lost to Celino in his reelection bid.
