Sapian to hold twin festivals on July 23-26
ROXAS CITY – The municipal government of Sapian under the leadership of Mayor Arturo Orosoco Sr. will hold its twin festivities – the Talahong and Tilibyugan Festivals on July 23 to 26.
Talahong has been derived from two words “talaba” (oyster) and “tahong” (green mussel), Sapian’s major products, which helped Capiz become the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines.”
Orosco, with his wife Dr. Evangeline Orosco, organized the festival to promote the two seafood resources abundant in the town.
Talahong Festival was conceptualized based on entrepreneurial and tourism purposes to trigger the town’s economic growth.
Hence, showcasing of seafood products particularly the “talaba” and “tahong” is the highlight of the two-day event. It is also the infusion of arts and culture that will serve as a tool in promoting Sapian as its best and provide revenue for the fisherfolk, travel operators, stakeholders and the local government.
Talahong Festval is usually celebrated every May 7 to 9 however, it was postponed because of the May 10 national and local elections.
Sapian disposes more than 100 sacks of “talaba” and “tahong” to other parts of Western Visayas every day.
Meanwhile, the Tilibyugan Religious Fiesta is celebrated every July 24 to 26 in honor of the town’s patron saint, St. Anne.
This year’s theme is “Tilibyugan … Sa Masagana at Matagumpay sa Sapian.”
Activities lined up are: July 23, opening of food fest; July 24, civic parade, opening salvo, coronation day, Talahong program with street dancing, Talahong parlor games, and youth night; and,
