University status a dream come true–Señeres
ROXAS CITY – Dr. Expedito Señenes, president of now Filamer Christian University, said the attainment of the school’s university status is a dream come true to everybody in the former Filamer Christian College.
These include the parents, students, faculty and the members of the Board of Trustees who had been working very hard and complying with all the requirements to attain said vision, he said in a report of the Philippine Information Agency.
By virtue of Resolution No. 186-2010 and in accordance with the pertinent provisions of Republic Act 7722, otherwise known as the Higher Education Act of 1994, FCC was granted a university status under the name Filamer Christian University.
Señeres said they have met all the standards and other requirements set forth by the CHED in the granting of a university status.
FCC was the first school so far that was granted a university status within one year from the time of their application, he said.
He acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Salvio Llanera for spearheading the task force for a university status.
Filamer Christian University is now 106 years old, which started in 1904 as a home for orphans and poor children, named as the Capiz Home School, under the care of the American Baptist missionaries offering elementary education.
It was in 1949 that said school was raised to the high school level and became Filamer Christian Institute in 1952, which name is a combination of Filipino and American in establishing and running the joint venture in Christian education and cooperation.
It was in 1985 that Filamer Christian Institute became officially known as Filamer Christian College.
“After 106 years of providing quality education in a Christian atmosphere coupled with hard work and by the grace of God, we have attained our dream of being a university, the first private school university in Capiz,” Rev. Eliseo Fantilaga, chairman of the Board of Trustees, said.
