2 men hit by stray bullet
Two residents of Janiuay, Iloilo were wounded by a stray bullet fired by one of the men who robbed a lending collector in the town around 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Police identified the victims as Herman Bendol, 56, and Felix Gonzales, 44.
Lending collector Loreto Nuñez, 39, a native of Butuan City, was about to board his service motorcycle after collecting from an eatery when another motorcycle suddenly emerged.
The driver and his companion parked beside Nuñez, and the latter alighted and poked a gun at the collector and declared a hold-up.
The suspects took Nuñez’s collection of P6,000.
Nuñez started to run away but the one of the suspects fired at him. Although
Nuñez was not hit, the bullet went through the eatery and hit Bendol and Gonzalez.
Both were wounded on the abdomen and were rushed to Federico Roman Tirador Memorial District Hospital also in Janiuay.
Police investigation showed the suspects might have been monitoring the activities of Nuñez, who has been working at EN Lending Corp. in Brgy. Sambag, Jaro, Iloilo City, for only a month.
Meanwhile, at around 7 p.m. the same day, three men also robbed the conductor of a Ceres bus in Brgy. Sto. Domingo, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
Two of the three robbers boarded the bus at Barotac Viejo terminal, and upon reaching Brgy. Sto. Domingo, the two men alighted but one of them claimed he still needs to get their things from the baggage compartment.
The bus conductor went with them and when they were outside the bus, the two men declared a hold-up while poking a gun and a knife at the conductor.
The suspects took the conductor’s P6,000 collection and fled on board a waiting motorcycle driven by the third man.
