Tanco, Castro to grace Sapian festivals
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. and Rep. Jane Castro of the 2nd District will grace the Sapian twin festivals – Talahong and Tilibyugan on July 23 to 26.
Dr. Evangeline Oñas Orosco, wife of Mayor Arturo Orosco Sr., said Tanco will be the guest speaker in the opening salvo of the festival on July 24.
Castro, meanwhile, has been invited to attend the Barangay Night on July 25.
Orosco said his administration is implementing a collaborative governance by supporting the development agenda of Tanco although they belonged to rival political parties in the May 10 elections.
The Orosco couple supported Tanco’s opponent former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Jocjoc” Bolante, an ally of Castro.
The Talahong Festival is usually celebrated every May 7 to 9, however, it was postponed because of the elections.
Meanwhile, the Tilibyugan Religious Fiesta is celebrated every July 24 to 26 in honor of the town’s patron saint, St. Anne. This year’s theme is “Tilibyugan … Sa Masagana at Matagumpay sa Sapian.”
Activities during the twin festivals include: July 23, opening of food fest; July 24, civic parade, opening salvo, coronation day, Talahong program with street dancing, Talahong parlor games, and youth night; July 25, talaba and tahong cooking contest, fisherfolks and farmer’s day, agri and aqua trade fair, Sapian Got Talent, procession, food fest, and barangay night.
For the culminating day on July 26, there will be a religious mass, Laro ng Lahi (parlor games), kapistahan chess tournament, gay boxing, fireworks display, and food fest.
