30 LGUs in Western Visayas get DOH citation for blood donation
Thirty Local Government Units in Western Visayas were cited by the Department of Health for their active roles in the promotion of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program.
During the recognition ceremony held at Sarabia Manor Hotel, Iloilo City, these local government units were also cited for drawing the highest number of blood donors recruited from January to December 2009.
The awardees from Iloilo are Barotac Viejo, Guimbal, Concepcion, Janiuay, Sta. Barbara; Aklan, Ibajay, Batan, Tangalan, Nabas; Capiz, Ivisan, Dao, Sapian, Pilar, Panit-an; Guimaras, Nueva Valencia, San Lorenzo, Buenavista, Sibunag, Jordan; Antique, Sibalom, Tobias Fornier, Hamtic, Patnongon, Anini-y; Negros Occidental, Don Salvador Benedicto, Himamaylan City, La Carlota City, Valladolid, Escalante City, and Cauayan.
Dr. Edgardo Silva, coordinator for Regional Voluntary Blood Service Program of DOH 6, said for four consecutive years, Region 6 has been cited also as second placer in the entire country for the active support extended to the National Voluntary Blood Services program.
Blood Donors Month is observed yearly in July.
The activity aims to raise awareness of the need for quality and safe blood, thank and honor blood donors and encourage regular blood donation.
This year’s celebration’s theme is “Young Blood” with the slogan “New Blood for the World.”
