Mabilog faces case for removal of illegal structures
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has ordered the Task Force Asis to continue the demolition of illegal structures along the city’s sidewalks despite the case filed against him by an affected tenant.
Mabilog said the complainant has filed for a temporary restraining order and the first hearing was held last Friday.
The Task Force Asis headed by Robert Dumanil was tasked to remove illegal structures and squatters on city public places and properties that have been declared nuisance.
Most of the illegal structures are made of mixed materials and are mostly dilapidated that these can possibly harm bystanders passing along the main streets.
Dumanil said he has already issued notices to owners of illegal structures in the central business district area, including J.M. Basa and Iznart streets.
He said he will also send notices to owners of illegal structures and stalls in other streets in the city proper along the downtown such as Ledesma, Valeria, Arroyo, and Delgado.
Illegal occupants along Brgy. Rizal in La Paz, and the districts of Jaro and Mandurriao, including the diversion road, were also instructed to voluntarily take out their structures before the demolition schedule.
During the demolition, 10 traffic officers and auxiliaries are assisting the demolition team.
Mabilog said this program aims to regulate the number of sidewalk vendors as the city is looking for a place where they could sell their products without hampering traffic.
