59th birthing clinic in Capiz opens
ROXAS CITY – The 59th birthing clinic in Capiz was blessed and inaugurated recently at the Municipal Health Office of Jamindan.
The health facility has basic birthing equipment that provides quality and affordable maternal health care services to the town’s residents. It is capable of serving the medical needs and ensuring the normal delivery of pregnant women.
“We want a facility-based delivery to be attended by trained health service providers for our expectant mothers to reduce risks of maternal and infant mortality,” Dr. Samuel Delfin, provincial health officer I, said.
Provincial Health Office records showed that birthing clinics have been established at 15 Rural Health Units, Roxas City Health Office, and 43 Barangay Health Stations in Capiz since 2004.
Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco said the clinics are part of his governance battlecry “Pag-Ulikid: Labi sa Tanan ang Tawo” which prioritizes above all the welfare of Capiceños.
The clinics were made possible through the collaboration of the Department of Health, European Commission, and the provincial government.
The facilities are complemented with the ongoing orientation and organization of community health teams provincewide to lessen maternal and infant deaths in the province.
Health records showed that for every 100,000 live births, there were 115 maternal deaths while for every 1,000 live births there were ten infant deaths in 2009.
