Mabilog advocates gun-free city hall
Public offices like city hall where people mostly converge, must be made into gun-free zones, Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
The mayor’s idea is an offshoot of several shooting incidents that transpired in public places that killed hundreds of innocent civilians around the world.
Currently, Iloilo city hall is located at the third floor of the Robinsons Place Iloilo in Quezon-Mabini Streets.
A gun ban will make public places peaceful and orderly, Mabilog explained.
Mabilog said that even city hall employees and visitors with licenses, mission orders, permits to carry or transport firearms must also be covered by the gun ban.
Only policemen and security guards stationed at the areas and authorized to carry firearms are exempted, Mabilog further said.
VIPs (very important persons) and their security personnel must be required to deposit their guns in the police security personnel stationed before going to the third floor area.
Aside from this, some conditions should be observed by these VIPs and security personnel. These include: permit to carry firearms outside of residence is non-transferable; firearm must not be displayed or exposed to public viewing; fiream shall not be brought inside the public drinking and amusement places and all other commercial or public establishments; and license or authority to possess the firearm must always be carried with the permit, and expired licenses must be renewed.
Mabilog also enjoined the public that if they notice any person roaming around the offices violating the guidelines and notice to immediately call the following hotline numbers: 337-0400–ICPO; 337-9022–PNP City Proper, 329-3912–PNP Jaro; 321-2355–PNP Mandurriao; 338-3867–ICMG; 329-0904–PNP La Paz; 337-9502–PNP Molo; and 337-9593–PNP Arevalo.
