PRC calls for more blood donors
ROXAS CITY – The Philippine Red Cross-Capiz Chapter has called on local government units in Capiz to sponsor a mass bloodletting activity for a steady supply of safe blood in the province.
PRC-Capiz Board of Director chairperson, Dr. Charlie Robles, said the LGUs are instrumental in encouraging more individuals to practice voluntary blood donation in their respective localities.
“About 40 to 50 bags of blood a day are dispensed by the Chapter due to the increase of dengue cases,” Robles noted.
PRC-Capiz releases only five to 15 bags of blood daily during “dengue off-peak season.”
Capiz Provincial Health Office records show the province has registered 1,285 dengue cases with 10 deaths from January to July this year.
Robles said a computer-based registry is being worked out for an automated database of blood donors in the province.
The PHO is also supporting the advocacy on voluntary blood donation as among its initiatives for the curative side of dengue.*
