PSHS scholarships open to Capiceños
ROXAS CITY – Incoming high school students from Capiz can avail of the state’s scholarship grant at the Philippine Science High School System.
Information Officer Sharon Portillo of the Department of Science and Technology Capiz said PSHS System already gave a go-signal for applicants to the freshman admission examination.
Last year, Kaarlo Sach Tupaz of President Manuel Roxas Memorial School-South was included in the top 23 passers all over the Philippines, and is now enrolled at the PSHS Iloilo campus.
The 2011 Philippine high School National Competitive Examination is already set on Nov. 6, 2010, while the deadline for the submission of application forms will be on August 27 this year.
Under said government scholarship program, the scholarship privileges include free tuition fee, free loan of textbooks, monthly stipend.
Uniform, transportation and living allowances are also given to those belonging to the low income groups.
Republic Act 3661 established the Philippine Science High School and mandates it to offer on a free scholarship basis a secondary course with emphasis on subjects pertaining to science with the end view of preparing its students for careers in science and technology.
The Philippine High School provides scholarship to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics.
The PSHS national competitive examination consists of items designed to measure verbal aptitude, abstract reasoning, quantitative ability and scientific aptitude.*PIA
