Flores patriarch denies grandson’s attack claim
Tigbauan Councilor Felix Flores has denied the claim of his grandson and fellow councilor Juan Miguel Flores that he physically attacked the latter during a recent cleanup activity at the town plaza.
“Waay gid ko sina nagkuga ukon nagsumbag kay Migs (I did not choke or hit Migs). It is not my attitude,” he said.
The elder Flores though admitted that out of anger, he grabbed Juan Miguel, 24, by the collar of his shirt.
He said his reaction stemmed from Juan Miguel’s implementation of his “beautification project” despite its violation of the findings of the Municipal Community Environment and Natural Resources Office.
“Based on the findings, the pruning of the trees at Oton Plaza does not suit the beautification purposes,” Felix said.
Before their physical confrontation, he claimed to have called the attention of the young people hired by Juan Miguel to do the trimming of the trees.
But Juan Miguel simply did not listen, he added.
Felix then called the attention of the General Services Office about the said activity.
Again, the hired youths did not listen and claimed that they were instructed by the younger Flores to do the job, he said.
For the Flores patriarch, his grandson’s attitude can be attributed to his being a political greenhorn.
A mayor for 12 years, he claimed that he just wanted to protect the Flores name.
“Sunset na ini sang akon political life. I would like to develop a Flores again here after Vincent pero kung gadali siya, sad to say, this is too early,” he added.
He is referring to Oton Mayor Vincent Flores.
Felix also gave his grandson an unsolicited advice: “Along the way, if you would not learn and you’re still too young, and you’re moving too fast, you might get blinded.”
Over the weekend, when Juan Miguel accused his grandfather of physically assaulting him, he demanded a public apology from the elder Flores.
