Gardose remains as IRC warden
Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. has junked the speculation on the possible replacement of Iloilo Rehabilitation Center warden Soteo Gardose.
Defensor said that as long as Gardose is capable of doing his job, he will remain in his post.
“We have no other choice. He is permanent to his position”, he said.
Although Defensor said that if Gardose is no longer fit for the job, he will look for a replacement.
Gardose was appointed permanent by former Gov. Niel Tupas Sr. only last February 1, after eight months of being an officer-in-charge.
Defensor had earlier he has already included the P10 additional food allowance for inmates of the IRC in his proposed budget.
It is up for the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to approve it, he said.
The IRC has 739 inmates, who currently have a daily food budget of only P50 each for three meals.
Insufficient food allowance has been the main cause of a series of noise barrages staged by several inmates during the time of Tupas.
Aside from additional food allowance, the inmates are also asking for potable drinking water.
Gardose said potable drinking water is not available inside the IRC compound, adding that the IRC has five motor pumps but these do not bring in water for drinking, and they use the water available only for bathing, cleaning and washing.
