‘Oplan Kandado’ closes 20 establishments
ROXAS CITY – Twenty business establishments have been padlocked by the Bureau of Internal Revenue here in line with its “Oplan Kandado” campaign from January to August 11 this year.
“We close establishments found violating our Tax Code,” said BIR Regional Director Glen Geraldino, during the BIR padlock operation against a construction supply store last week.
He clarified during a radio interview that the closure will be temporary because the establishment can go back to business upon the settlement of its obligations.
Oplan Kandado is a nationwide activity expected to boost revenue collections, improve voluntary compliance, enhance tax awareness and prevent further commission of tax violations or tax evasion.
It is based on BIR Memorandum Order No. 3 issued by the Office of the Commissioner in 2009 allowing the temporary closure of business establishments found with numerous tax violations, including undeclared and underdeclared sales, operating without BIR permits, and non-issuance of receipts.
The BIR regional office accomplishments on the campaign were contributed by the Revenue District Offices of Capiz, Antique, Aklan, Zarraga and Iloilo City in Iloilo province that carried out the closure orders in their respective areas.
Geraldino said that surveillance and appraisal activities, and issuances of the 48-hour notice and five-day VAT compliance notice are being conducted before serving the closure order.*PIA
