City Hall raps 15 violators of anti-littering ordinance
Fifteen 15 persons, including two foreigners, were charged by the city government before the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office last August 27 for violation of anti-littering ordinance.
City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Noel Hechanova, assisted by anti-littering enforcement agents and Atty. Daniel Dinopol, representing the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter, filed the charges.
Hechanova said the city government is serious in enforcing the law and in filing the cases against violators.
Enforcement agents have been trained by the IBP in para-legal work for the filing of charges before the prosecutor’s office and eventually the court.
The City Prosecutor’s Office is expected to issue a subpoena notice to the violators and answer the charges. If they fail to appear, a warrant of arrest will be issued against them for failing to follow the court’s order.
More than 40 violators were caught red-handed throwing their garbage in non-designated areas and were issued citation tickets.
Most of the violators paid the penalties of P500 each at the City Treasurer’s Office.
