‘Crime prevention everyone’s responsibility’
Preventing crime requires cooperation and collaboration of all elements of the community, Director Honey Paredes of the National Police Commission 6 said.
NAPOLCOM leads the observance of the National Crime Prevention Week from September 1 to 7.
This year’s theme is “Komunidad at Pulisya, Magkasama Tungo sa Pag-unlad ng Bayan”, with the slogan “Ako, Ikaw, Tayong Lahat Laban sa Krimen.”
Paredes said the National Crime Prevention Week seeks to promote community involvement and cooperation in preventing crime as well as maintaining peace in the community.
The five pillars of the Philippine Criminal Justice System are: Law Enforcement; Public Prosecution; Judiciary/courts; correctional institutions; and Community.
Assistant Regional Director Arnel Agabe of the Department of the Interior and Local Government 6 cited the help of barangay tanods in preventing crime and maintaining peace in the community.
He said that in connection with the week-long observance, the DILG 6 will conduct a Search for the Most Outstanding Barangay Tanods, now on its fifth year, to give incentives and awards in the pursuit of the implementation and management of peace and order programs and initiatives in the region.
Supt. Graciano Zapanta, deputy director for operations of the Iloilo City Police Office, said the ICPO will conduct a symposium to strengthen its campaign against illegal drugs, in La Paz on September 4.
The week-long activities will include: Mass; Fun-Walk to Freedom Grandstand; Whistle-Blowing during the Opening Program at the Freedom Grandstand; 5th Criminal Justice Education Quiz Show; Bonggahan Iwas Krimen; Advocacy on 117 by DILG; and Impromptu Speaking Contest.
The culminating activity on September 7 will include the awarding of certificates of recognition to deserving individuals and organizations.*PIA
