I have faith in MIWD–Mabilog
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he is giving the Metro Iloilo Water District a chance to improve its service in the next nine months as he announced that there is no need for the Local Water Utilities Administration to takeover the MIWD management.
He said the MIWD can find the solution to the city’s water supply problem if both its management and board of directors will get their acts together.
“I have faith in the MIWD,” Mabilog said.
The MIWD will implement a bulk water supply project through a competitive bidding which involves the delivery of bulk water by third party suppliers on a specified water quality and quantity standards for a period of 10 years.
The water supply will be injected directly to MIWD’s existing 200mm diameter line at areas specified at a minimum pressure of 60 pounds per square inch at any given time.
The supplier will initially deliver to MIWD potable water at a minimum volume of 2,000 cubic meters per day and at a required flow rate of 84 to 124 cubic meters per hour.
The MIWD management, headed by Le Jaime Jalbuena, had earlier said they intend to put in an additional 20,000 cubic meters of water daily from the project to augment its current supply.
Mabilog said MIWD will start working on its bulk water project soon, with the bidding scheduled this month and construction to start by December. The project is expected to be completed in June next year.
He said the mayor’s office will constantly monitor the project and thoroughly oversee the bidding and the construction process.
MIWD has around 33,000 water service connections in Iloilo and supplies about 30,000 households.*
