PRO6 conducts trainings for disaster response teams
The Police Regional Office 6 will also conduct disaster trainings for its personnel for them to be prepared in case of calamities, particularly during typhoons and floods.
Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., police regional director, said the disaster trainings have already started to make sure that police response teams are equipped with skills and expertise in responding to disaster emergencies.
Trainings include first aid, search and rescue operation, retrieval operation, some basic knowledge in fire fighting, among others.
Pagdilao said the police also needs the help of other government agencies, civilian volunteer groups, and local government units to reach their common goals in disaster response.
“The Philippine National Police could not do it without the help of the public and other inter-agency units,” he said during the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council 6 meeting at the PRO6 conference room yesterday morning.
Pagdilao, chairman of RDCC 6, assured the public that the police in Western Visayas is ready anytime to respond to calamity situation.
“We have ready rubber boats and warm bodies to save lives and properties,” he said.
Anti-Dengue Drive
Pagdilao said he also discussed the region’s dengue situation with the RDCC members.
Dengue cases in Western Visayas have reached 11,896 as of August 21, with 69 deaths, records of Department of Health 6 show.
As part of the PRO6 civic action program, Pagdilao said he has instructed city and provincial police offices to join the clean-up drive in their respective localities to eliminate the breeding places of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.*
