Thousands of local, foreign jobs available on PhilJobnet system
Labor Secrertary Rosalinda Baldoz said both local and foreign employment are available on the government’s job matching portal, PhilJobnet.
“Filipino workers, whether looking for jobs in the local economy or dreaming to work overseas, should avail of the benefit of technology that is the Internet. They should for once visit the PhilJobnet,” she said.
Baldoz said workers will find the government’s job matching portal a convenient place to look for a job because the Internet-based job and applicant matching system, which is free, could help workers fasttrack their job search and employers their search for workers.
Employers from all over the country and even abroad continue to post job vacancies in the PhilJobnet system.
The Department of Labor and Employment’s Bureau of Local Employment, which manages the facility, said there are more than 1,000 employers who have job vacancies in the PhilJobnet.
To enhance its effectiveness in facilitating delivery of relevant labor market information which is indispensable to the right matching of skilled workers with available jobs, Baldoz said she had instructed the BLE to upgrade and strengthen some more the PhilJobNet system.
The PhilJobnet has functioned continuously for more than a decade now since it was first launched in 1998.
“Our thrust to enhance the Phil-JobNet as an engine of labor market information and job-skills matching is in pursuit of the agenda of the Aquino government to reinvigorate labor and employment,” Baldoz said.
The BLE reported that as of last week, local employers have posted some 51,850 vacancies currently available to job seekers in the system.
The “Top 20” of these vacancies, she said, are considered “hot jobs,” or in-demand occcupations and that majority are local jobs, while the remainder are overseas employment.
Baldoz said the PhilJobnet is not only for employers, but is also an online portal for skilled persons and ‘own account’ or self-employed workers.
“Plumbers, carpenters, even roving beauticians, may also advertise their services in the portal free of charge. In fact, there are currently 6,176 skills-for-hire who have availed of the free advertisement opportunity offered by the PhilJobnet,” she said.
There are 69,926 applicants registered with the facility as of date, while there are only 51,850 available vacancies. This reflects the prevailing challenge of job-skills mismatch, even as she strongly encouraged those searching for jobs to upgrade their skills or seek retooling.
The top 20 vacancies posted in the PhilJobnet include accounting clerks, nurses, building and general electricians, call center agents, waiters and waitresses, cashiers, civil engineers, cable splicers, building maintenance workers, marble setters, production and factory workers, tile setters, sales clerks, kitchen helpers, land surveyors, hotel concierges, quantity surveyors, executive and general secretaries, assistant cooks, estimators, architectural draftsmen, graphic designers, commissary chefs, bulldozer operators, heavy equipment mechanics, service engineers, electrical engineers, maintenance supervisors, hydraulic backhoe excavator operators, and electro-mechanical technicians.*
