‘We’re committed to peace, order’
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the city government is committed preserve peace and order for its people.
“The Ilonggo community is as determined as the police to preserve peace and order. Besides, we in the government are committed to protect our barangays from criminals and wrongdoers because we want to lay the foundation for a secure and strong future for our citizens,” he said.
Mabilog said during the opening ceremony of the National Crime Prevention Week that the annual celebration should remind the public to take a unified stand against criminality and be determined to ensure the safety of the city and their places of residence.
The key aim in developing a strategy against crime in the community should focus on reducing our vulnerability, he said.
To lessen vulnerability to crime, Mabilog said the focus should be on increasing safety and security in all environment in which people live and work, increasing the extent and effectiveness of partnerships between government and the people, and diverting potential offenders into more productive channels and to help unfortunate crime victims.*
