City cops on lookout for loose guns
The Iloilo City Police Office is stepping up its campaign against loose firearms.
Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, city police director, said that aside from conducting regular checkpoints, ICPO will also strengthen police visibility and foot patrol operations to monitor persons carrying firearms illegally.
Basngi said robbers commonly use loose or unlicensed firearms during their illegal activities.
He said he has ordered body frisking of suspiciously-armed individuals in public areas.
Earlier, police arrested Ricardo Maulit Jr. of Brgy. Baluarte, Molo district at Claire’s Fastfood and Sari-Sari Store in Jaro district for illegal possession of firearm after he failed to show pertinent papers.
Maulit was caught in plain view possessing a 9mm (Tanfoglio) caliber pistol bearing serial number AB70062, with a magazine and eight live ammunition.
He was detained at the lock-up cell of Jaro Police Station while the arresting team was preparing to file a case against him.*
