‘Pyesta sang Kakahuyan’ set Sept. 11
Ilonggos will plant around 4,000 seedlings of narra, jackfruit and other fruit trees will be planted during the “Pyesta sang Kakahuyan” on September 11 at the Maasin watershed.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office chief Soledad Sucaldito said aside from provincial government employees, representatives from non-government organizations, civic clubs, private companies and academic institutions will also participate.
Participants and their vehicles will assemble in front of the Coca-Cola plant in Brgy. Ungka, Pavia, Iloilo at 6 a.m. The caravan going to Maasin watershed will start at 7 a.m.
A short program at the Maasin watershed will precede the tree-planting activity where Maasin Mayor Mariano Malones will welcome the participants and Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. will deliver a message.
Defensor said the “Pyesta sang Kakahuyan” is a symbolic act to revive public awareness on the importance of trees in our environment.
The governor said his administration will embark on a massive tree-planting activity especially on the watersheds.
The “Pyesta sang Kakahuyan” was established by Defensor when he first served as governor of the province from 1992 to 2001.*
