Iloilo airport tightens security
Iloilo Airport Manager Efren Nagrama said they have tightened security at the airport to protect tourists and other passengers.
Nagrama said the tightened security is being done to avoid an incident similar to the Manila hostage crisis that claimed the lives of eight Hong Kong tourists.
Although he noted that fewer passengers are now taking flights at the Iloilo Airport in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan towns because of the lean season.
“We are doing our security preparedness in such a way that the flying public will be (protected),” Nagrama said.
The Iloilo Airport has X-ray machines used to check luggages of the while passengers are also being frisked.
Checkpoints are also in place within the airport premises.
‘Colorum’ Reduced
Meanwhile, Nagrama said the number of colorum vehicles plying the airport has been reduced after they sustained their campaigned against these unregistered vehicles.
He said they have already identified the owners of the remaining colorum vehicles.
The campaign against colorum vehicles was launched in June to compel owners to have these registered with the Land Transportation Office and to encourage airport passengers to patronize legitimate transportation.
Nagrama said there are still colorum vehicles that continue to ply the airport route because some passengers prefer to take a ride outside of the airport premises.
However, this practice is not helpful because colorum vehicle owners are not encouraged to work out their registration with the LTO, he said.
Nagrama said he hopes that by next month, they could already get rid of all colorum vehicles at the airport.*
