Capiz to name excellent towns
ROXAS CITY – The Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) Awards provincial search will end on September 15, Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Helen Mestidio said.
“We are stepping up the provincial search to prepare our provincial entry to the Regional EXCELL evaluation,” Mestidio said.
The EXCELL Awards which started in 2008 is a continuing project of the DILG in Western Visayas to recognize the best managed local governments in the region, particularly their achievements, initiatives and innovations in governance, administration, social services, economic development, environmental management and local legislation.
The Awards complements the DILG and its partner agencies’ desire to recognize and promote the best practices and innovations in local governance and to complement its unwavering commitment to support and encourage good governance.
It covers two categories: Category A, composed of first to third class municipalities and Category B, fourth to sixth class towns.
At the regional level, the best performing province, city, first to third class municipality and fourth to sixth class municipality will be awarded with a cash prize and plaque.
A cash prize and plaque will also be given to those excelling in Administrative Governance, Social Services, Economic Development, Environment management and Local Legislation.
In Capiz, Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. has appropriated funds for the prizes of the towns that will be declared champions in the different areas of governance.
Mestidio said the continuous search for excellence in local governance will also encourage other local government units to work more for the welfare of their respective constituents.
This year’s EXCELL Provincial Search Committee has the participation of the DILG as chairman with the membership of the Office of the Governor, Department of Education, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine National Police, Philippine Information Agency, Provincial Health Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Accounting Office, Philippine Councilor’s League, and REACT Philippines, representing the non-government organizations.*PIA
