DPWH 6 details measures to prevent project defects
The Department of Public Works and Highways 6 has detailed several measures to prevent defects of their newly completed concrete pavements even with the adoption of correct construction methods and good quality materials in its various road concreting projects.
DPWH Regional Director Rolando Asis pointed out that based on their study and investigations, the deficiencies were caused by the absence of pavement design analysis, lack of soil investigation prior the design and plan preparation, uncontrolled passing of overloaded trucks and non-inclusion of subsidiary works such as slope protection works and drainage facilities.
To address the problem, Asis ordered all district engineers to ensure that a detailed engineering and soil investigation shall be conducted regardless if the road project already existing or still ongoing construction.
Pavement analysis shall also be conducted on the design of the drainage structures and facilities as well as slope protection works.
They also have to “observe the required compaction of subgrade, embankment, base and sub-base materials as specified in the DPWH Standards and Specifications Handbook.”
“Use the acceptable quality of construction materials and be vigilant and ensure that road sections that are under curing period and not yet ready for traffic are protected,” Asis said.*PNA
