Treñas cancels foreign trip after son gets dengue
The teenage son of Iloilo City Rep. Jerry Treñas was not spared by the dengue virus.
Paolo, 15, the youngest of the congressman’s children, was rushed to the hospital last Friday following a high fever.
Treñas said his son’s body temperature shot up to 39.5˚C, and the following day, Paolo had rashes all over his body.
When his body temperature did not go down, he was brought to the hospital and a series of laboratory tests showed he had dengue fever.
“When his platelet count was checked, it was only 40,” the solon said.
Four bags of blood plasma were then transfused on Paolo.
Treñas said he could not ascertain where Paolo got the dengue virus.
“I don’t know if he got it from school. According to Paolo, several of his classmates also had dengue,” he said.
Treñas said he has advised the administration of Ateneo de Iloilo at Pison Ave. in Mandurriao district about what happened to his son, and school officials assured him that they will again conduct an intensive clean-up of their premises.
His son’s medical condition prompted the solon to abort his official trip to Shanghai, China where he was supposed to speak about projects of local government units at an Asian Development Bank forum.*
