DTI-Capiz to recognize consumer-friendly stores
ROXAS CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry-Capiz Provincial Office will confer the Silver and Bronze Awards to Mirola Merchandising and Amado Lim Enterprises, respectively, on October 14 at the MVW Restaurant and Tourist Inn here as part of its Certified Establishment (CE) Program in the province.
The awarding rites is also in time with the nationwide observance of the Consumer Welfare Month this October.
Ma. Angelita Colmo, chief of DTI-Capiz Consumer Welfare and Trade Regulation Division, said the awards will be presented during the seminar on Fair Trade Laws (FTL).
The DTI-CE program aims to engage businesses to adopt a self-policing mechanism designed to promote and foster the highest level of business ethics and uphold a fair and honest marketplace.
It is in line with DTI’s commitment to protect the consuming public from illegal trade practices by ensuring compliance of industries to FTL and other related policies, including the Consumer Act.
All retail establishments, supermarkets, department stores, appliance centers, hardware stores and DTI-accredited service and repair shops may apply for certification under the DTI-CE Program.
Colmo said deserving establishments will be awarded based on a graduated level of excellence.
A Bronze award means the establishment has complied with fair trade laws and has maintained good customer relations through a Consumer Welfare Desk while a Silver award means achievement of both the Bronze requirements and ensuring effective store management/operations and adhering to social responsibility.
The Gold award is achievement of the Silver requirements and implementing some elements aligned to quality and environmental management systems in their operations.
Meanwhile, DTI-Capiz will also hold a Consumer Welfare, Product Quality and Safety Expo from October 5 to 7 at Gaisano City in Arnaldo Boulevard.
“It aims to increase awareness among business and consumers about mandatory products that have met existing safety and quality standards that affect life, property and safety,” DTI- Capiz Public Information Officer Ken Cuñada said.
This year’s CWM celebration is themed “Consumers: Green Multipliers.”*
