Red Tyller by Ryan Lopez
At the 3rd Indigenous Fiber Fashion Week
The 3rd 3rd Indigenous Fiber Fashion Week held at SM City Iloilo recently was not just limited to Iloilo City’s young designers but to those from Aklan as well. After all, Aklan is a haven of good quality hablon (woven cloth).
Wowing the Ilonggo crowd on the fourth day of the fashion week was Ryan Lopez, the designer behind the Red Tyller signature.
His show was divided into three parts. On the first part, the models showed how hablon is worn. It can be draped over the shoulders or it can made as a wrap, a belt or a sarong. You can even tie it around your neck and saunter Boracay’s beach with only that and a comfortable pair of trousers.
The second part featured some really nice bags made of banig and abaca and decorated with appliqués.
The third part was the meat of Ryan Lopez’s collection. “My inspiration was Marilyn Monroe. Vintage. Classic but sweet,” said Lopez.
“I made use of patadyong, abaca and raffia,” said this designer who had been providing Aklan with excellent fashion since 1999.
The fashion show was directed by Bombette Marin.
