Tricycle number coding approved
ROXAS CITY – The City Council approved on Tuesday the tricycle number coding ordinance, along with the two measures both prohibiting the selling and derby of spiders, and texting while driving.
The three ordinances, authored by Councilors Powell del Rosario and Emmanuel Billones Jr., were the subject of public hearing last Monday at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center.
Del Rosaio, chairman of the committee on transportation and communication, said that under the coding system, tricycle drivers can save on expenses for fuel and maintenance while they can have more time for their families and other personal matters.
Under the scheme, passenger tricycles are not allowed to operate from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. on particular days based on the last digit of their designated unit numbers.
Tricycles with unit numbers ending in 1 and 2 cannot operate on Monday; 3 and 4 on Tuesday; 5 and 6 on Wednesday; 7 and 8 on Thursday; and 9 and 0 on Friday.
But they are all allowed to ply their routes on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Violators, including the operators, will be fined P200 for the first offense; P500 for the second offense; P1,000 for the third offense and revocation of franchise for the fourth offense.
Meanwhile, the ordinances banning the selling and derby of spiders and texting while driving also have corresponding penalties.*
