CRC escapee captured
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Rehabilitation Center escapee Sulpicio Marcelino, who is facing illegal drug charges, was captured Saturday in Montalban, Rizal province, police said.
Senior Supt. Renato Gumban, director of Capiz Provincial Police Office, confirmed that Marcelino was arrested through the concerted efforts of the police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Gumban said Marcelino will be brought back to CRC either today or tomorrow.
Marcelino, a resident of Brgy. Tacas, Pontevedra, Capiz, bolted the CRC last September 24 when the facility was holding its anniversary festivities.
He is facing drug pushing cases before the Regional Trial Court Branches 18 and 19 here, and has posted a bond in an Iloilo City court for the same offense.
Gov. Victor Tanco Sr. has formed a task force to probe the jail break.
Provincial Administrator Jose Villanueva, concurrent provincial legal counsel, said Tanco has placed CRC Warden Arjuna Yngcong and Provincial Jail Guard 2 Rudy Sereneo under preventive suspension for not more than 90 days.
Villanueva said jail guard Surab Dumali was appointed officer-in-charge of CRC.
Despite Marcelino’s recapture, the investigation will continue to determine who are responsible for his escape.*
