Guimaras has least undernourished kids in Western Visayas
The province of Guimaras has the lowest underweight for age cases among children in Western Visayas, according to the National Nutrition Council (NNC).
NNC Executive Director Maria-Bernardita Flores said the province has a 20.7-percent prevalence rate as against the region’s 31.9 percent. The figure is far lower compared with the national rate of 26.2 percent.
Meanwhile, Flores cited that there have been various interventions that are being done to address the issue on malnutrition even as she emphasized the support of the local government units in coming up with supplemental feeding.
Data from the provincial government of Guimaras showed that the local government unit has been assisting 45 barangays in the supplemental feeding which benefited some 1,072 children last year.*PNA
